Frequently Asked Questions

Is an eSIM the same as a physical SIM card?

An eSIM is a digital version of a SIM card that is stored on your device. It functions in the same way as a physical SIM card and provides the same service, but does not need to be inserted into the device.

Can I use an eSIM with any device?

eSIMs are supported on a growing number of devices, but it is important to check with your carrier and device manufacturer to ensure that your device is compatible with eSIM technology.

Can I switch between eSIM plans easily?

Yes, you can switch between eSIM plans easily through your device settings or by contacting your carrier. There is no need to physically swap SIM cards as with a traditional SIM card.

How do I find my MEID number on my phone?

The EID/MEID number can be retrieved from your phone by dialing in the universal code *#06#. As soon as you finish dialing the code, the IMEI/MEID number will appear on the screen.

Is my phone "unlocked" to use eSIM

Only unlocked cell phones can use eSIM. You should make sure that your phone is unlocked before you get eSIM from Rent 'n Connect.

How to check if your phone is unlocked: four methods

1. Where did you buy your phone?
If you bought your phone directly from the manufacturer's store (Apple or Samsung, for example) it is probably unlocked. However, if you bought the phone from a telecom provider (such as Orange, AT&T, or Movistar), then it might be tied to that provider - so you cannot use an eSIM.

2. Use another SIM card
The easiest way to find out if your phone is unlocked is to borrow a SIM card from a friend or family member. If you can use this SIM to make a call or send a text message on your phone, that means your phone is unlocked. If you cannot make calls or SMS messages with the new SIM card, that means your phone is tied to your provider and cannot be used with eSIM.

3. Check on your settings (iPhone only)

1. Go to your Settings Menu

2. Scroll down and click "General"

3. Go to the "About" section

4. Now scroll down and look for "Carrier Lock" or "Network Provider Lock". If you see "No SIM restrictions" that means your iPhone is unlocked and can use an eSIM. If not, then the iPhone must be tied to a specific carrier.

4. Contact your provider
If you cannot work out if your phone is unlocked, the best thing to do is contact your provider. They can also help unlock your phone if it is network-restricted.

Do I have to enable roaming when I am using eSIM?

Yes. You should enable the roaming function from eSIM settings if you are using outside UK.
